League Game

20 Apr 2015 by Lynley Fewster

With a few unfortunate injuries and a late withdrawal, things didn’t look perfect for what was going to be a huge game, playing against a highly paid Toodyay side with many WAFL players on their team list. The average age of our side also being a lot younger. Will Roe, Brayden Rule and Kale Worth must have been feeling very nervous in their first game of League football. The quarters seemed short and the football was fast and tough, but our boys gave Toodyay something to think about. Our midfield was top class and the back line relIable, with the forward line still getting used to new positions and new players. We definitely had Toodyay rattled, as they were no doubt expecting to have an easy win by all accounts. They retaliated with some off the ball niggling and some questionable tactics trying to unnerve our guys. The game was close and competitive and if it wasn’t for a gimme free kick in front of goals Toodyay would have found themselves trailing. The new imports played exceptionally well and we didn’t give an inch. It was a brave performance full of guts and stamina. We lost by only 1 point and gave everyone at the game something to think about. We are a team to be reckoned with and we are as good as the best. The local boys played with passion and did everything they could to help their team get over the line. A tough preseason definitely paid off and the boys now know they have the ability to beat every team in the League. Congratulations to Brendan (Wattles) our new coach and the boys named in the leadership group.
